THE
CONTEMPORARY KEYBOARDIST
ON LINE
(CK
On Line)
Welcome to CK On Line. I have always enjoyed giving something
back to such a wonderful field such as music and so I have been
teaching its fundamentals for many many years. I’m really
excited about now offering this service on line. Of course I still
do private lessons for those who live in the Los Angeles area
or want to come and visit but now with the Internet and e mail
and sound file attachments, I can reach a lot more of you. I will
also eventually be offering downloadable standard lessons on various
topics such as rhythmic independence, chord substitutions, jazz
improvisation, sight reading, musical styles, intervallic playing,
and more…. but to be honest, even though these prefab lessons
will be exceptionally good, a) they are already covered in my
books and tapes that I urge you to check out and b) there’s
no substitution for private custom lessons as each student is
different. Of course you are welcome to do both, that is, download
any prefab lesson on the topic of your choice and enroll in CK
on line for custom private instruction.
"John
Novello's ability to address the subject of music is extremely
clear headed and to the point. It's refreshing amidst the mystery
and complexity that usually surrounds the subject. His ability
as a speaker is captivating as well. I found myself engrossed
in his descriptions of his own viewpoints about music and his
assessment of the relative importances of the elements that comprise
the subject and also the life of a musician in practical terms.
reading his book is very much like hearing him talk. It's a no-crap,
straight ahead approach." Chick Corea
"In my formative years as an aspiring keyboardist,
I longed for a complete source book for information on all aspects
of playing. There were none. Then as a teacher I desired a thorough
reference manual to use as a text with my students. After years
of waiting, this void has been filled by John Novello's
The Contemporary Keyboardist. An exhaustive work covering virtually
every aspect of contemporary keyboard music, from the emotional,
to the business, to pure technique, it's all here. A valuable
addition to every student, teacher and professional keyboardist's
library. Congratulations John, my wishes have been answered!"
Andy Laverne

"I highly recommend John Novello's method on contemporary
keyboard playing. His book is a wonderful launching pad for beginners
and advanced keyboardists alike. Even with my 30 years of experience
in the business, every time I open his book, The Contemporary
Keyboardist, I learn something too." Herbie
Hancock
"I'm finally learning the basics and getting in total
control of my playing" Steve Kipner, (award
winning platinum song writer)
"The book is the bible of contemporary keyboard playing."
Sheet Music Magazine
"The revised and expanded The Contemporary keyboardist
by John Novello is probably the most thorough book ever written
on the subject. I recommend it highly." Henry
Mancini
"Whether you're looking for an overall keyboard course
or boning in on a specific part of your playing, John's course
is the best!" Paul Taylor, ( musician/songwriter
with Winger, Alice Cooper & Steve Perry)
"The instructional method by which all others are
measured!" Musican's Magazine
"The Major work for today's pianists."
International Musician
"Solid and readable, and relevant, The Contemporary
Keyboardist should be near the top of every method book list."
